Thomas R. Watkins Named as a 2017 ICDD Fellow

Dr. Thomas R. Watkins, a researcher at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), TN, has been named an ICDD Fellow. Dr. Watkins was recognized for his faithfulness and commitment over the years, namely his two decades of leadership at the annual Denver X-ray Conference (DXC), as well as his strong support of ICDD. His award was presented at the 2017 Denver X-ray Conference, held in Big Sky, Montana.

Dr. Watkins is an expert in the areas of residual stress measurement and analysis in metals and ceramics, and X-ray instrument alignment. He has contributed his expertise to the community by frequently participating at DXC as a work instructor, a chair or co-chair of the popular “Stress Analysis” session, and as a judge at the “XRD Poster” session. He is currently the leader of the Scattering and Thermophysics group in the Materials Science and Technology Division of ORNL. Congratulations, Tom!
